Eleven poachers held in Panna National Park

Eleven poachers were arrested from the tiger reserve area of the Panna National Park in Panna district on Monday by a joint team of police and forest officials.

Field Director Shahwaz Ahmed said 11 poachers were in hiding near Ken river when they were nabbed. Two guns, potash, axes, and antlers of Sambhar deer were seized from them.

A forest department vigilance team had received information about the presence of poachers in the park. Mate Valmiki, Pappu Valmiki, Premshankar Khare, Ram Milan Kushwah, Lallu Dhimar, Issu Adivasi, Anand Sahu, Papola Gond, Bakhatlal, Bharat Dhimar and Ramcharan were arrested. Most of them hail from Panna and a few from Chhatarpur districts of Madhya Pradesh.

Cases were registered for illegally entering the park area, carrying weapons and poaching. A tigress had been found dead at the Park about 3 weeks ago. The cause of death of the tigress has not been ascertained yet and the viscera report that was sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory is still awaited.
