Indraprastha Gas awarded Golden Peacock

Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) the sole supplier of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Piped Natural Gas (PNG) in the National Capital Territory of Delhi, has been declared winner of the Golden Peacock Eco-Innovation Award (GPEIA) for 2006 by Golden Peacock Awards Secretariat.

The communication received from Director General of Golden Peacock Awards Secretariat states that the jury headed by Justice PN Bhagwati, Former Chief Justice of India has declared IGL the winner of the award. The jury for the awards comprised top serving and retired bureaucrats and officials. The award will be formally presented at the forthcoming 8th World Congress on Environment Management at Palampur in Himachal Pradesh on June 9, 2006.

The prestigious award is awarded every year to the most innovative product. IGL has won the award in the medium and small enterprises category in Oil and Petroleum segment.

The role of IGL in checking vehicular pollution in Delhi is acknowledged both at the national as well as international foras. Air pollution has gone down after introduction of CNG in the public transport segment.

Today, IGL fuels the world's largest public transport fleet comprising over 80,000 vehicles. IGL is catering to over 1,06,000 CNG vehicles, which include about 25,000 private cars. Since it is cost effective, nearly 1,500 to 2,000 cars are converted every month to CNG mode.
