Gas Activists' groups opposing the ongoing repackaging and safekeeping work of hazardous waste on Union Carbide campus, on Friday, alleged that the work was exposing residents to dangerous air pollution.
Demanding to stop the work immediately, the activists sought intervention of Supreme Court Committee on Hazardous Waste Management.
Addressing scribes on Friday, activists' leader Sathinath Shadangi alleged that from the last two-days about 10,000 residents of four localities, adjoining Union Carbide, complained breathing problems.
"A pungent smell emanating from the Union Carbide has made life of those living in near by localities difficult," he alleged.
The activists have also written a letter to the state Pollution Control Board chairman Dr P S Dubey accusing him of being involved in corrupt practices.
Supreme Court Monitoring Committee Management's local area environment committee chairman Satish Tiwari endorsed the claims of activists.
Mr Tiwari said that he has complained the chairman of the superior body.
"I demand to stop the work till the Pollution Control Board acts in more transparent manner," he said.
