DEHRADUN: The Swajal project in collaboration with Allahabad bank on Wednesday installed a bio-crush reverse vending machine inside secretariat to manage daily plastic waste generated in the state secretariat campus. Installed under Swachh Bharat Mission (Rural), the reverse vending machine was inaugurated by chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, who said that the purpose of the machine is to get rid of plastic waste and recycle it.

“The installation of the machine is aimed at promoting behavioural attitude and to motivate people to throw plastic bottles and cans inside the machine only. It will help segregate waste and encourage people to not litter the secretariat campus, which sometimes chokes drains as well,” Rawat said.

Apart from employees, secretariat is also visited by common people on a daily basis. Usually, plastic bottles are burnt causing air pollution.

Director of Swajal project, Raghav Langer said that the machine will crush plastic bottles, deposited by the people, and will convert them into plastic flakes. “A person using the machine can put his mobile number using the screen and would subsequently receive a congratulatory message,” he said.
