Nagaland bans hunting of wild animals

KOHIMA: All types of hunting, poaching and trading of wild animals have been banned throughout Nagaland through an order passed by the Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur.

Official sources said here on Wednesday that the Deputy Commissioner had prohibited hunting and sale of all wild animals, birds, lizards and all other forms of wildlife in the entire State, under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.

In the order, the Deputy Commissioner said any individual or group indulging in any such activity shall be liable to prosecution and penalties, including forfeiture of property or articles used in committing wildlife offences.

The Deputy Commissioner appealed to the people to abide by the Wildlife Act . — UNI
