Pollution Control Board warns industries illegally dumping hazardous wastes

Hyderabad: Industries resorting to illegal dumping of hazardous wastes, effluent discharges or causing air pollution and odour nuisance were by cautioned of stringent action including prosecution as per the provisions under the Water, Air and E(P) Acts by the State Pollution Control Board.

At a meeting with the representatives of industries located in the Patancheru and Pashamailaram here on Thursday, the PCB Member Secretary, P.Satyanarayana Reddy asked the industries to form environment committees in their industrial estates and take up self-regulation to control pollution from their units. If required, they may close an industry till all the pollution control measures were in place, he said.

E.Venkata Narsimha Reddy, VC&MD, TSIIC and D. Srinivas Reddy, RDO, Sangareddy were present in the meeting which was also attended by office bearers of Industrial Area Local Authority (IALA) and representatives of chemical, pharma and bulk drug industries.

The IALA in IDA Patancheru and Pashamailaram were asked to identify all vulnerable places where illegal dumping of hazardous wastes take place and install IP cameras and connect it to the PCB, TSIIC and police department. The industries were also directed to install IP cameras at the main gate where there is a movement of effluent and hazardous wastes carrying vehicles, according to a press release.
