Various programmes mark World Earth Day

Various events, seminars and workshops were organised to commemorate International Earth Day. The Regional Museum of Natural History, Bhopal organised a Poster Making Competition on the occasion of International Earth Day from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. The theme of the competition was ‘Environment and Climate’. 173 students from class VIII to X from 23 schools of Bhopal participated in this competition. Participation certificates were distributed to all participants.

Earth Day is an annual event celebrated on April 22. Worldwide, various events are held to demonstrate support for environmental protection. First celebrated in 1970, Earth Day events in more than 193 countries are now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network. Earth Day 2017’s campaign is Environmental & Climate Literacy. Education is the foundation for progress. It is necessary need to build a global citizenry fluent in the concepts of climate change and aware of its unprecedented threat to our planet. We need to empower everyone with the knowledge to inspire action in defense of environmental protection.

AntrikshSethiya from Jawaharlal Nehru Public School has been selected for first prize. Kanupriya Vyas from Anand Vihar Public School and RajdeepMridha from Jawaharlal Nehru Public School were selected for second and third prize respectively. Isha Trivedi and Harshita from Bal Bharti Public School, ManviBhayre from Anand Vihar School, Riya Jain, St Joseph’s Co-Ed School, Neha Parashar from Sardar Patel Public School, Misrod and selected for encouragement prize. All the winners will be awarded on June 5, 2017 on the occasion of World Environment Day. Manik Lal Gupta, Scientist-B, was the Coordinator of the programme.

Global Biodiversity Education Society, in collaboration with EPCO and MP State Biodiversity Board and Bhopal Birds Association, organised a workshop on Environment and Climate Education. This event was organised to commemorate World Earth Day. On this occasion, students from Maharishi Vidya Mandir were present. Event was organised at EPCO office. Awards were given to the winners of poster making competition. Dr Ravindra Kanhare also gave speech on the subject ‘Effect of Pollution on Environment’.
