RAJKOT/AHMEDABAD: There's more trouble in store for Bollywood actor Salman Khan may wildlife activists issuing a notice to the forest department asking them why no action had been taken in the killing of a chinkara in Kutch district in 1998. The actor was allegedly involved in the incident.

The activists have invoked Section 55 of the Wildlife Protection Act 1971 and have asked the forest department to clarify within 60 days why no action had been taken in the case against Salman.

The activists have also threatened to take legal course if the officials failed to give a satisfactory reply.

Amit Jethwa, president of Gir Nature Club, in a notice to deputy conservator of forests, states that as per a report and inquiry conducted into the incident, Khan had indulged in poaching.

The incident dates back to the time when Khan and Aishwarya Rai were in Kutch district shooting for Sanjay leela Bhansali's Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. The Gujarat forest department ahad summoned Khan and Aishwarya for questioning, but closed the case due to lack of evidence.

Jethwa says that under Section 55, forest officials were duty bound to reply to the notice or else they could take legal recourse. "The forest officials have hushed up the matter and are now trying to cover it up on the pretext of not getting direct evidence in the case,"he said.
