2 held on poaching charge

Two more persons were arrested at Meenangadi on Monday on the charge of poaching in the Kuppadi forest station limit under the Kurichyad forest range of the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary.

The accused have been identified as Dileep ,21, of KarthanKallayil, at Thenkuzhi and Ratheesh,28, of Vellada. Dileep’s father Kunhiraman, 48, was arrested on February 21 in connection with the incident. The accused revealed that they had hunted a mouse deer and a barking deer on February 20 at Thenkuzhy forest, Warden P. Dhaneshkumar said. When they were returning with the carcass of the animals, they came across an elephant on the way at Abbas kolly. Though Kunhiraman had fired at the pachyderm with a country made gun, the bullet hit Pradeep, a member of the team, who died later.
