AHMEDABAD: The authorities at Nalsarovar have decided to have dustbins at several spots and even at the banks of the Nalsarovar after the authorities recovered 800 kg of plastic from the banks of the lake. The volunteers involved in the cleaning also found that villages situated on the banks were also disposing off their waste along the lake only.

The lake which is the only Ramsar site in Gujarat was cleaned for the third time and the volunteers of Manav Seva Trust even recovered children dippers with plastic waste which were disposed off by the tourist.

"This is not the first time that this exercise has been taken up along the banks and the area the forest department has been taking up regular cleaning, but this time the NGO has covered almost the entire lake. We are now proposing to have garbage bins in each boat and even at the lake in the tourism areas," said RG Prajapati the deputy conservator of Forest, Nalsarovar.

Prajapati said that the forest department is in talks with various NGOs working in the area for putting up garbage bins.

ManubhaiBarot said that for three days the volunteers of Manav Seva took out rally and moved in all the areas surrounding the lake and we found over 20 huge bags of garbage from these areas. This is not the first time that the banks and the bets in tourism zone were being cleaned.

Barot said apart from empty packets of dry snacks, plastic bottles, the volunteers also found children dippers which were disposed off in the lake. He said that also the volunteers found that several villages on the banks were also disposing off their litters on the banks which was polluting the lake and causing concern for the birds.

He said that the district administration has to take up a special drive in the villages around the lake and ensure that the garbage from the village does not come out on the banks. The forest department has to ensure that no poaching takes place and even ensure safety for these birds.
