Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain Monday said preparations were underway for the return of odd-even scheme, which could be implemented in case the air quality deteriorates further in the city. “Preparations for odd-even has started, situation to be reviewed on Friday, then its implementation will be decided on,” said Jain.
When asked how the administration will deal with the thick smog cover enveloping the city, Jain said 10 ideas to bring down the rising air pollution levels were put forward for consideration and the issue will be dealt with strongly. On Sunday, Kejriwal announced a slew of measures to tackle the air pollution crisis in Delhi. He asked officials to consider the return of the road rationing scheme and directed different departments to prepare in advance. Ban on construction activity, shutting down of Badarpur power plant and schools were among the list of measures announced.
On Monday, the weather hasn’t improved in the city, with the IMDB predicting that conditions will get better only on Wednesday. Pollution levels have got worse since Sunday, with PM2.5 levels at 588 and PM10 registering 844.
In October, the National Green Tribunal directed Delhi government to convene a meeting and come up with a solution to the worsening pollution levels in Delhi. It questioned the effectiveness of the odd-even scheme as the air ambiance levels have reduced further during its implementation.
