Guwahati: Amid heightened security, poachers active in and around Kaziranga National Park managed to kill yet another rhino in the Park and subsequently took away its horn.

A senior forest department official said here on Thursday that the incident came to light on Thursday morning when the forest guards on routine patrol recovered the carcass of the rhino from the park’s Burhaphar range.

“Since the horn of the rhino was missing, it was clearly indicative of the fact that the latest killing was an act of poaching,” said the forest official.

The forest official said that the latest killing of th rhino was the 16th incident of rhino killing by poachers in the Kaziranga park in the current year.

He said that the rhino was probably poached on Wednesday night and since empty cartridges of AK-47 rifles were recovered from the site, it was indicative of the fact that a militant outfits active in the area was responsible for the poaching.

However investigation was in progress to ascertain the group behind the latest incident of poaching
