Study of pollution caused due to stone crusher units under process

Stone crusher units are responsible for enhancing air pollution in the city. Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board (MPPCB) had carried out an inspection of the stone crusher units. From the report of the MPPCB it was clear that stone crusher units are now complying with the directions issued in as much as the operations has been discontinued and even some of the units have removed the machines used for cutting and polishing. Those who have not done so far are also in the process of removing the machines.

The disputed plot in present states that the plot is now being utilised for residential purpose. In view of the above, so far as the issue with regard to the illegal utilisation of the plots contrary to environmental norms is concerned that has been stopped. Any stone crusher units violating norms will be scrutinised and accordingly environment impact study will be done.

NGT directed Indore Municipal Corporation in consultation with the MPAKVN and the Indore Development Authority to consider allotment of alternative industrial plots for the purpose. Earlier, the (Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board) MPPCB was asked to submit the details with regard to the stone crushing units and mines which have been established and operations without due consent to establish / consent to operate and/or EC with their installed capacity giving the duration of their grant/commencement of operation.

Accordingly, they have also made report so that impact on environment can be studied.

This petition submitted at Green Panel alleged that illegal trading of various stones for paving and other purposes but also using the premises for stone cutting and polishing contrary to the environmental laws without obtaining any consent to operate or establish and thereby polluting the environment of the area. It was directed that Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board (MPPCB) at Indore shall carry out an inspection of the premises and submit a factual report with regard to allegation about the kind of the activity being carried out.
