Poaching on rise in Adilabad, 124 cases filed

ADILABAD: There is a rise in poaching activities across the district for the last two years. In the six divisions of the erstwhile Adilabad district, as many as 35 cases were booked for wildlife offences in 2013-14, 56 in 2014-15 and 33 cases till September. In Nirmal division, about 20 cases of Wildlife Act were registered between in 2013-15.

Two weeks back, poachers killed a three-year-old tiger and buried it. The incident came to light after a cattle grazer noticed the dead body buried and informed the officials. Last month the forest officials of Bejjur forest range officer M Ram Mohan seized tiger skin and arrested three persons near Ateguda hamlet.

District forest officer B Prabhakar said special team has been formed to nab the poachers.
