Tigers Migrating from Maha to Adilabad

ADILABAD: A tiger and her four cubs were detected in Sirpur (T) range in Khagaznagar forest division last month. The tiger had migrated from Tadoba Reserve forest of Maharashtra State and had set a den in the region.

Khagaznagar Division Forest Officer (DFO) M Ravi Prasad said that the animals were found recently in Bheemana forest area in Sirpur (T) range. The cubs came to drink water which was captured on CC cameras. The officials monitored them and came to the conclusion that the tiger along with her cubs were moving into the region. He informed that at present there are eight tigers in the division including four cubs. The cubs may be three-months-old.

The official said that the tiger had migrated from Thadoba Andheri Tiger Reserve of Maharashtra to the range while she was pregnant and setup a den in the region. He added that migration of tigers have increased from the tiger reserve due to availability of water and food. Three teams of five members each have been formed to observe the movement of tigers. 20 cameras trap the movement of animals and proposals have been given to the government for another 30 cameras.

At present, there are six base camps and there are proposals for four more camps along with scaling up the anti-poaching team.
