CANSAULIM (Goa): India and China on Friday discussed the climate change issue of melting of Himalayan ranges on the sidelines of the eighth Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS) environment ministers meeting. BRICS nations have decided to share technology to improve the quality of air, water and waste management.

Environment ministers of BRICS countries and the working group had a discussion on various topics related to environment in Goa. Speaking to mediapersons, union minister for environment, forests and climate change, Anil Madhav Dave, said that the snow at the peak of (Himalaya) mountain has melted and become fragmented but it is not that countries surrounding the mountain are responsible, but it is the effect of the global climate change.

"During bilateral (talks on the) issue, we have discussed (melting of Himalayan ranges), particularly with China. These are the two countries on either side of the mountains," Dave said. Further, he said that India as well as China is concerned about the melting of snow in the Himalayas. "We both (India and China) discussed the issue (melting of Himalaya ranges) for a solution and we are not blaming each other who is responsible," he added.
