NEW DELHI: The Centre has denied poaching as cause of death of three tigresses one each in January, February andMarch of the Corbett National Park. Besides, it is unsure about the most recent death of the fourth in Ramnagar.

Project Tiger chief Rajesh Gopal, who headed to the park for assessment on Wednesday, told TOI that neither poaching nor poisoning was the cause in the first three cases. "Body parts are intact.

I am unsure about the fourth case; it may be poisoning," he said further. The first death was in January when the tigress was injured in a fight in Bijrani buffer zone.

"She was spotted dragging herself on January 8. She refused to eat meat and died the next day. A viscera report denied poisoning as the cause," he added.
