COIMBATORE: Forest department officials on Thursday afternoon rescued an adult jackal from an abandoned mill at Sundarapuram here.

Acting on a tip-off, a team led by Madukkarai forest range officer M Senthil Kumar, forester S M Sasikumar and anti-poaching watchers rushed to the spot and rescued a jackal. Later, the animal was released in Solakkarai reserve forest in Madukkarai forest range.

The officials said they received information that two adult jackals were found inside the abandoned mill compound of Raj Narayana mill at Sundarapuram. After two hours of chasing, they managed to catch only one jackal.

The officials said they would resume operation to rescue the other jackal on Friday. Forest ranger Senthil Kumar said the animals might have been strayed into the city from the reserve forest located 10km away from the mill.
