Poaching riddles Kaziranga; rhino killed

After a brief lull, poaching starts riddling Kaziranga again. Poachers killed a rhino and took away the horn from the national park on Wednesday hours after Pramila Rani Brahma got tougher with the officials.

The incident took place at the Agoratoli range of the world heritage site in the wee hours where the forest guards got to hear the sound of gun firing near the Demow camp. They rushed to the spot and spotted the dehorned carcass of the animal.

Forest minister Pramila Rani Brahma visited the park and pledged to stop the rhino poaching incidents and indicated a probe into the allegations of missing horns of rhinos who died natural death.

This is the first rhino poaching after the change of guards in Dispur. The erstwhile TarunGogoi government faced no less ire for the unstoppable rhino poaching cases. Despite the round-the-clock vigil, poaching refused to halt in the national party forcing the Chief Minister to change the minister apart from handing over a few such cases to CBI.
