Describing India and China as emerging major economic superpowers, British Minister of State for Environment and Climate Change Mr Eliot Morley said the international community did share concerns about environmental issues in these countries.

"India and China would have to look into issues like urban transport, waste management and planning that are common to industrialised countries," he said.

He added that there were 'ecological footprints' that the international community, especially developed countries, is concerned about in case of India and China.

Speaking to mediapersons on the sidelines of the ongoing LEAD Global Training Session, the Minister said India's response to the international community's call to address environmental issues has been very positive.

He added that India is part of the dialogue at the international level to thrash out issues of environmental concern.

Mr Morley said that Britain and India are working closely on Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) which is part of the Kyoto Protocol.
