NEW DELHI: Ahead of the climate change summit in Paris this year-end, India is all set to announce its "balanced and comprehensive" action plan on Friday to fight adverse effects of climate change, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
An official statement said that environment minister Prakash Javadekar will announce its Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs) on Friday.
INDCs are voluntary pledges that countries are making to cut carbon pollution ahead of UN climate meet in Paris at the end of the year.
Almost all the major countries, including the United States and China, have already declared their INDCs.
All the member-countries of United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) are expected to submit their climate action plan underlining how they will act to check global warming and fight the menace of climate change.
Javadekar had earlier told PTI that India's INDCs will be comprehensive, balanced and ambitious and will cover mitigation, adaptation and finance technology.
He had said that India's action will reflect on all fronts including increasing renewables, lowering emission and energy intensity, building resilience capacity in states having more carbon sync, development of newer technologies and capacity building of vulnerable countries and least developed countries.
The Conference of Parties (COP21) in Paris, scheduled from November 30 to December 11 this year, will for the first time in over 20 years of UN negotiations, aim to achieve a legally binding and universal agreement on climate with the aim of keeping global warming below 2°C.
