Noise level less during Deepavali

This Deepavali was less noisier compared to the previous one, according an analysis of noise pollution conducted by the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) on the festival days.

KSPCB Chairman Ramachandra told Deccan Herald that the noise levels this year was less due to downpour and awareness among people. The number of crackers burst were also less. The noise pollution data shows this. Though the air pollution data is not ready still, preliminary observations by the regional officers and the team show that air pollution was less, he said. According to statistics, the noise levels was less compared to standard values in Peenya Industrial Area and Whitefield Industrial Area.

The noise level had decreased at seven locations by 5.3 per cent when compared to noise levels recorded during the Deepavali festival last year. The locations are: Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health, Marathahalli, BTM Layout, Parisara Bhavan on Church Street, Yeshwantpur Police Station, Whitefield Industrial Area and Peenya Industrial Area. However, the noise levels increased at two places by 2.6 per cent - Basaveshwaranagar and Domlur. At RV Engineering College on Mysore Road, an increase in noise level was recorded because of increased vehicular movement on Bengaluru- Mysuru Highway.

KSPCB compared the ambient noise levels recorded from November 10 to 12 to the data of November 6 at ten locations and found that the ambient noise levels recorded had decreased at four places during the day and ranged between 0.5 to 2.3 per cent during the festival days.
