Care for the stray dogs

The Hindu , Sunday, October 25, 2015
Correspondent :
Diwali may light up our lives, but for animals, especially strays, the festive season is rather dim with noise and air pollution as well as the danger of getting burnt by firecrackers lurking at every street corner.

A group of volunteers from the NGO People for Animals will be educating Delhiites about how to make this Diwali more bearable for the city’s four-legged residents. The animal welfare organisation has been running outreach programmes in schools and colleges, but now wants to sensitise residents about looking after strays in their neighbourhoods. Volunteers, mostly college students, will be starting with an outreach programme at Lodhi Garden on Sunday to spread awareness about the needs of stray animals and how to keep them safe. “We will be interacting with those walking in the park, the nearby RWAs and the general public to sensitise them towards stray animals,” said Ambika Shukla, an activist and trustee of PFA.
