New Delhi: The government is considering starting a video website devoted to green practices, which will also be the subject of an hour-long programme to be aired daily on the newly launched DD Kisan channel, environment minister Prakash Javadekar said on Friday.

The moves are aimed at spreading public awareness of environmental issues.

“We are thinking of launching an Internet green channel. We are also looking at starting one-hour-long programme based on green practices on DD Kisan channel,” Javadekar said at a conference on waste management in New Delhi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the first anniversary of his National Democratic Alliance government in May, launched DD Kisan, which is aimed at helping farmers access better technology, information about the weather and crop prices and boost agricultural productivity.

Modi has also talked passionately on environmental issues, including climate change, several times.

Javadekar stressed the importance of waste management in both rural and urban areas.

The environment minister said India must look at building an organisation that would guide city municipal committees on solid waste management. He also asked the media to play a role in spreading awareness about environmental issues.
