The Jharkhand Pollution Control Board (JPCB) issued fresh guidelines on Thursday to industrial units in the state to ensure zero level discharge of water and air pollution.

Official sources said the JPCB swung into action after the National Green Tribunal (NGT) took serious note over its inaction in checking power plants, coal washeries and other industries from releasing its effluents to the Damodarriver.

In April, The JPCB issued notice to 35 industries of North Chhotanagpur to check releasing effluents to Damodarriver.

Besides setting up analysers, the JPCB has also directed industrial units to cover the surrounding area of plant with green sheet (plantation) and carry out environment awareness campaign in the region round the year.

JPCB chairman AK Mishra said the department had resolved to achieve a pollution-free environment through information technology.

DP Singh, the regional officer of JPCB, said most of the industries had checked releasing effluents in Damodarriver except two power plants (Chandrapura Thermal power Plant and Tenughat Thermal Power Plant).

“They will face action so that NGT directives could be implemented,” said Singh.
