NAGPUR: Ever thought football can bring about a change in environment protection? Well, here is a second to none chance for kids to learn all about environment conservation and sustainable development by just kicking a ball.

To raise awareness about importance of protecting nature and planet Earth on World Environment Day, the Nagpur For Kids (NFK) Club, Pench Tiger Reserve Foundation, Kids for Tiger and Slum Soccer organization are jointly conducting fun-filled physical activities for children to spread the social message. Revolving around the theme of fun and learn, the activities will draw attention towards present day issues affecting our environment.

Speaking about the event, livelihood expert of Pench Tiger Reserve Foundation Jaydeep Das said that the engaging games will educate kids about responsible management of natural resources. "Today, we are living in a fragile ecosystem and the need of the hour is to get serious about environment protection. We have seen how small climatic changes cause severe damage to our ecosystem. We are especially targeting kids and youngsters as they are the caretakers of tomorrow," he said.

He added that using football and physical games as a medium to spread social message is quite an innovative concept. "With the help of unconventional games, we will spread messages about various green issues like saving water, electricity, planting trees, wastage of food, avoiding use of plastic, air pollution and many others in a very simple manner," he said.

The best part of the event will be that there won't be any preachy lectures or boring repetitive sessions. "Though the concerned issue is not new, we will try and present it in a novel way. We are making it more practical and creative so that the purpose of the activities can be understood in best possible manner," said Das.

Talking about the scope of environment protection, he said, "It should not be limited to conservation of wildlife or protected areas. It is also about taking care of our surroundings. Earlier, 70% of India constituted of villages but today the same percentage covers cities. Hence, there is a bigger need for environment conservation in urban areas," he said.

The event will be held on June 5 at three places in the city: Traffic Park at Dharampeth, Bishop Cotton School Ground at Sadar, and Futala Lake side from 5.30 to 7.30pm. NFK Club members can contact on 9096679860 for registrations.

To register for the activity please call on 9096679860 from 10am to 5pm. Limited seats available on first-come-first served basis.
