Consultation meeting on climate change held

The Hindu , Wednesday, March 25, 2015
Correspondent :

The city is highly vulnerable to climate change threats and does not show any indication of adapting to the challenges before it, claimed J. Janagal from the Public Affairs Centre.

He was speaking at a consultation meeting with stakeholders on the State Action Plan to combat climate change, organised by the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board here on Tuesday.

Mr. Janagal stressed on the need for a consistent programme on drain management, and to engage the public in rainwater harvesting to supplement the city’s water needs, besides fostering better coordination between different civic agencies.

While underscoring the need for ‘low carbon cities’, he said city administrators need to play a proactive role in adapting to climate change.

Representatives from the Electronics City Industrial Township Authority spoke about the various measures taken by the authority, including focussing on waste management, water conservation and alternative energy sources.
