For the first time TSPCB is setting up LED screens to propagate messages on noise, sound and air pollution among others. It is also producing short films to create awareness about pollution apart from releasing posters, pamphlets and conducting workshops.

“It is time to reach the public through innovative ways. We have to do away with old system and select those avenues which will help us in reaching public well. Therefore LED screens and short films have been planned to grab the attention of people,” N Raveendhar, senior environmental scientist at TSPCB, said.

The pollution board has already applied for permissions from the GHMC to set up LED screens. According to officials, all formalities may be completed within a week and in the next 15 days LED screens with pollution control messages will come up at busy junctions in the city. Initially, TSPCB plans to set up seven LED screens covering important places.

With regard to short films, script discussions are going on and TSPCB has roped in a few film-makers and asked them to come up with new concepts.

“Short films will be of one or two minutes duration. We have asked some film-makers to come up with concepts. Once we select a concept, production will start. It might take two more months for the short films to get completed. These films are meant for telecasting in television and exhibiting in theatres,” Raveendhar said. TSPCB has also decided to buy a new mobile awarenes bus as the present one has become dilapidated. “Though the PCB takes up various activities people have a negative outlook about us. Therefore we want to reach out to public and explain about our activities and create awareness about importance of controlling pollution,” he said.
