Dudhwa reserve administration has sought help from the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) to increase vigil along the UP-Nepal border to check tiger poaching.

The decision comes after the arrest of 10 poachers this year. After poachers' arrest, Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB) is directly coordinating with UP STF and Pilibhit reserve administration in crackdown against poachers in Pilibhit. It has also passed directions to UP forest department to be vigilant against tiger-crime and poachers.

The personnel of 12 station outposts of SSB along 130-km boundary of Pilibhit and Dudhwa tiger reserve with Nepal will be sensitized against wildlife crime and apprised about the Indian Wildlife Act to act against poachers from Nepal.

A meeting has been convened at Dudhwa next week. SSB officials, police officers from Lakhimpur and Pilibhit, officers from WCCB and forest divisions of south and north kheri along with Dudhwa and Pilibhit administration will draft the strategy to check wildlife crime in the region. "Focus will be on planning a common strategy to tackle wildlife crime," said deputy director, Dudhwa tiger reserve, VK Singh.

"SSB can intensify vigil along the routes that smugglers take," said regional deputy director, northern region, WCCB, Nishant Verma.

Recently, Nepal police arrested two poachers, residents of Lakhimpur and Pilibhit, and recovery of 37kg tiger bones and skin from them.

STF had arrested eight poachers in January, all of them residents of Pilibhit. Two tiger teeth, 10 kg tiger bones and 17 kg decayed tiger flesh was recovered from them.
