NEW DELHI: Hollywood actor, activist and former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger will attend the annual 'Delhi Sustainable Development Summit' (DSDS) which is organized in the Capital from February 5 to 7 to brainstorm on ways and means to tackle climate change and reduce carbon footprints.

Union environment minister Prakash Javadekar and railway minister Suresh Prabhu are expected to deliberate on India's efforts to move on low carbon growth path on the occasion.

The Summit, organized by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), will focus on issues related to sustainable development, environment and energy access and security.

Speaking on the relevance of the DSDS, TERI's chief R K Pachauri said, "With global developments moving towards finalization of the 'Sustainable Development Goals' and an agreement on climate change expected at the Paris Conference of the Parties (COP 21) at the end of 2015, there is need for a timely initiative in these areas. The Summit would not only provide momentum to global developments in both these areas, but also enrich the debate through the insights and knowledge of very distinguished participants to focus on these two inter-linked issues".

Arnold, founder of the non-profit organization R20 Regions of Climate Action, had earlier attended the annual Summit in 2007 and 2012. The TERI has been organizing the Summit since 2001.

The three-day Summit this time will host plenary sessions on a range of issues including climate change, sustainable production and consumption, sustainable buildings, smart cities and energy efficiency.

The 11th 'Sustainable Development Leadership Award' will also be presented on the occasion. Instituted by TERI in 2005, the award felicitates global leaders for their contributions in the field of sustainable development, and for encouraging global initiatives that can lead the world towards a sustainable future.

Anand Mahindra, chairman and managing director, Mahindra & Mahindra, had received the Award last year.
