Police, Forest Dept raid house of poachers' accomplice

A joint team of Sehore Forest Department and police staff on Friday raided the residence of Yuvraj Singh, accused of providing shelter to the poachers who were arrested on Thursday afternoon by the Sehore police.

Yuvraj managed to flee before the police reached there. The police have also not been able to find the weapon that was allegedly used in poaching. The Forest Department staff have arrested Santosh and Gurmeet Singh from Rehra village in Sehore district.

According to SDO (Forests) Rehti, PD Gabriel the officials received information that a party of poachers was returning from village Rehra on Thursday afternoon. Later on the tip-off they were apprehended at the Aaonli Ghat on the Narmada river while the poachers were crossing the barge on vehicle.

The arrested persons include Majid, Sabir, Shadab and Umer, all residents of Bhopal. The police seized some flesh of a spotted deer and peacock from their possession. The jeep (MP 04 HC 8560) has also been seized. During interrogation they told the police that the animals had been shot at village Rehra, where they were hosted by one Yuvraj Singh.

A case under Section 9, 50, 51 of the Wildlife Protection Act has been registered against the accused. The arrested persons have been taken under judicial remand.
