Nagpur: In a belated move, the state government has finally sent the technical report of international level zoo at Gorewada to the Central Zoo Authority (CZA), a statutory body under the ministry of environment, forest and climate change monitoring zoos in the country.

The detailed project report (DPR) was sent to the CZA on December 15. It was sent to the government's high powered committee headed by chief secretary in August. A meeting was called by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on November 21 to review the project in Mumbai. Yet, it took a month to dispatch it.

The issues that came up in the meeting included sanction of FSI for 25.57 hectare non-forest land outside Gorewada from 0.04 to 1. The enhanced viability gap funding (VGF) of Rs183.63 crore was also discussed.

As discussed in this meeting, the government has agreed to release balance Rs18 crore for the rescue centre. Of the Rs26.95 crore rescue centre project, only Rs9.20 crore has been spent. The work on country's best rescue centre is held up for funds.

With chief minister hailing from Nagpur, it is expected that the project will get a big push. Fadnavis, when in opposition, had raised Gorewada project issue with the then forest minister Patangrao Kadam umpteen number of times.

Sources said it will take at least three months' time to clear it by the CZA technical committee.
