Steps sought to protect deer, blackbuck

The Hindu , Wednesday, September 10, 2014
Correspondent :
Villagers led by Fluorosis Vimukti Porta Samithi (FVPS) founder, Kanchukatla Subhash, gave a representation to District Collector T.Chiranjeevulu urging him to initiate measures to protect deer and blackbuck in Marriguda mandal by launching ‘Mana Ooru Mana Jinka’ programme on the lines of ‘Mana Ooru Mana Pranalika.’

The villagers attached the copy of a news report published by The Hindu on deer poaching to their representation.

Mr.Subhash said that wild animals were rendered homeless due to lack of forest cover which provided an opportunity for poaching of rare animals. He appealed to the district administration to allot some 100 to 200 hundred acres of land for deer as part of its conservation measures by involving all the nearby villagers.

Another villager, Ithagoni Yadaiah Goud, appealed to the government to take strict action against the poachers. The District Collector has promised to take action against the poachers besides designing an effective action plan for conservation of deer in co-ordination with all the departments.
