The transport department last week conducted a drive to check noise pollution by vehicles that use shrill horns in the City. They also registered cases against such vehicle owners.
In the drive, conducted between August 4 and 8, the officials also took action against BMTC buses that were not stopping at the designated places and instead were stopping in the middle of the roads, causing traffic jams and risking the lives of the commuters.
The department officials said that to ensure that buses do not cause air pollution, their teams would inspect the emission test centres at the bus depots. Further, cases will also be booked against vehicles sounding horns in no honking or silent zones which includes schools, hospitals etc., they added.
Officials said that the permits of vehicles causing pollution and using shrill horns would not be renewed.
