Men caught with tiger skin remanded to seven days of police custody

VADODARA: The trio that was caught with a tiger skin in Chhota Udepur has been remanded to police custody for seven days by a local court. The Chhota Udepur police had sought remand of the accused to ascertain the source from which they got the tiger skin and their modus operandi. The trio was arrested on July 10 from Sawra-Khobra hill on Kawant Kadipani Road near Chhota Udepur border. The Chhota Udepur police had said that the accused seemed to be in business of selling tiger skins and was part of some organized gang.

The accused have been identified as Gautam Parmar, a resident of Pavi Jetpur, Virendra Solanki, a resident of Bodeli and Ghanshyam Soni, a resident of Gandhinagar. The police department had contacted the forest department after they seized the skin. The forest officials confirmed that it was skin of a tiger that must have been 3-years-old. The tiger skin has been valued at about Rs 11.50 lakh. The police said that the trio is not part of any poaching gang.
