Correspondent :
A four-day national level workshop for the preparation of Activity Guide for National Children’s Congress (NCSC), a government of India programme, began here on Thursday.

The NCSC has a theme of ‘Weather and climate change’ for 2014 and 2015, where children of the age group of 10 to 17 years would carry out mini research projects around the theme. The workshop, jointly organised by the Department of Science and Technology and the Pondicherry Science Forum, would finalise the contents of the Activity Guidebook, which will be the baseline for NCSC in the next two years.

The workshop was inaugurated by Dr D K Pandey, Director of Science and Technology, in the presence of Madam Aline Cahrles, principal of Lycee Francais. Addressing the gathering, Dr Pandey said the NCSC programme is aimed at inculcating scientific temper in the children at a very young age. He said the NCSC programme, started in 1993, has been implemented in over 600 districts and has a student participation of over one billion. He added that 10 ASEAN countries also participated in the programme since 2007.
