The Jammu and Kashmir government will soon submit the final draft of the action plan on climate change to the Centre.

"The state will send its final draft of action plan on climate change to the Centre in the coming weeks," Principal Secretary of Planning and Development B R Sharma said, adding that the plan lays out the state government's strategy to implement J&K specific climate priorities, besides aligning it with the national-level framework.

Sharma, who chaired a meeting to discuss the draft action plan here today, said it was almost ready and would be submitted to the Union Environment Ministry soon.

Sharma said promoting climate-friendly practices, norms, behaviours and policies in J&K forms part of the plan and it identifies measures that promote our development objectives while also yielding co-benefits for addressing climate change.

"It also takes regional- and district-wise climate risks and vulnerabilities into account. As we move forward in this regard, new suggestions can be incorporated in the plan for better results," he said, adding it is important that there is collaboration across state agencies, as well as with public, businesses, and industry to ensure proper implementation.

"We are in this together and our energy, water, forest, agricultural, tourism and health missions should be reflective of this cooperation if we are to succeed," he said.

He said J&K has vast potential to harness renewable energy sources like water and solar to meet energy requirements, besides making use of best agricultural practices to enhance production of our food crops.

He said the state government will welcome financial support from the Centre under this plan.
