The Kerala Revenue Department has come under the attack of cyber criminals with two of its websites defaced by the hackers. The websites of the Commissionerate of Land Revenue and the Directorate of Survey and Land Records were hacked on Sunday.

When the websites www.clr.kerala.gov.in and www.dslr.kerala.gov.in are opened, a message saying ‘Hacked By Bozkurt97’ appears on the screen. The page opens to a picture of a wolf with the description Bozkurt 97. It further claims ‘Hacked Turkey Security.’ Moreover, the page carries a slogan - ‘One Turk Against the World’, with a red flag bearing a crescent and star symbols fluttering near it.

Kerala State IT Mission Director C Jayashankar Prasad said that the defacing of the sites had come to their notice. However, he said that he could have the details of the hacking only after the officials go through it. ‘’We do not know the identity of the hackers. I have asked the Computer Emergency Response Team to look into it and also to inform C-DIT who are managing the websites,’’ he told ‘Express.’

He said the site administrators will pull off the defaced page and re-host the original pages in a short time. The anatomy of the attack is not yet known. The hackers had not left behind any message explaining why the sites were hacked as was the common practice with the hackers.

Hacking is a problem often faced by the government websites. It was only recently that nine websites of the Kerala Government were hacked by a Pakistani-based hacker group. The websites included that of the Directorate of Medical Education, Land Records, Biotech Commission, Stores Purchase Department, the State Land Board, Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary, State Rural Roads Development Corporation, Department of Environment and Climate Change.
