Environment Conservation Board holds eco-child fair

A two-day State level eco-child fair has been inaugurated at Satsang Bhavan situated near Dudhari Matth by Chhattisgarh Environment Conservation board on Tuesday.

Addressing the students and other gathering, PV Narsingh Rao, secretary of Chhattisgarh Environment Conservation Board said the State is rich in biological diversity. Stressing on the need to understand their responsibility by students to conserve the environment, he added, children can keep the rich biological diversity of the State safe with their efforts towards it.

Rao also outlined the need for gaining the practical knowledge of the environment other than theoratical knowledge so that the students can take it seriously.

AP Sawant, representative from the Centre for Environment Education, was also present on the occasion other than about 160 participants from various parts of the State.

He said several representatives of the Centre for Environment Education have been imparting training to students on conservation of the environment in a positive way and the importance of bio-diversity. The participants have been selected by their school administration. Apart from knowledge and importance, they also conducted a session to discuss the major issue of climate change.

Anjali Mukherjee, Apeksha Ninoriya, Dr Parveen Sharma, Avtar Singh Bhangal, Prof MA Khan and Saheb Lal Shrivastav were also present on the occasion.The fair will be concluded on Wednesday.

The eco-fair will be concluded on November 22 at 3 pm. During the concluding ceremony, Baijendra Kumar, president of the State Environment Conservation Board will distribute prize to the eco-club schools which have performed best for the environment conservation. He will distribute a cash prize of Rs 10,000 to the first winner, 7,000 to the second winner and 5,000 to the third winner along with momentum and certificates.

According to the Board official, they will award the schools which have establish an outstanding benchmark in the field of conservation and re-use of natural resources, conducted several environment awareness programmes and education in the field of land development and environment education.

It may be mentioned that the State Environment Conservation Board has appointed eco-club in more than 4,000 schools. The club has been established to promote and make children aware about environment conservation. These clubs are working for vermin composting, rain harvesting, re-use of water and plantation.
