Twenty-seven women scientists and technologists from different scientific organisations of the nation are participating in the training programme on climate change and carbon mitigation. The programme, jointly organised by the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE) and Science and Technology department started on Tuesday. During the five-day programme, participants will learn about the atmospheric trends.

‘Climatic change is a major challenge for developing countries like India that face large climate variability and are hence exposed to enhanced risks,” noted Omkar Singh, DDG (education), ICFRE while addressing the participants.

He said India was a mega-biodiversity country and 10th largest forested country in the world. With nearly two lakh villages classified as forest fringe villages, there is obviously large dependence of communities on forest resources. Sandeep Tripathi, DDG (research), while welcoming the participants said that ICFRE was proactive in forest and climate change related issues at the national and international level and was engaged in capacity building programmes of the officers of Indian Forest Service and scientists and technologists working in the government sector.
