The senior officials from Union Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF), Haryana Government and environmentalists would put their heads together on Thursday to ensure preparation of a potential State Action plan on climate change (SAPCC) for Haryana.

The experts would meet on Thursday at Inception workshop on climate change to review the initiatives taken by Haryana Government to prepare SAPCC. Simultaneously, directions would be issued to the concerned officials involved in the task to expedite the whole process to prepare the State action plan.

Representatives from INRM, the consultancy firm appointed by the Centre for Haryana would also be present during the brainstorm session. Experts from INRM are assisting the Haryana Government to prepare SAPCC.

The experts would review various measures taken by the State Government to prepare SAPCC and would guide the concerned authority on how to go about in preparing an efficient SAPCC.

So far, the State Government has constituted seven working groups to work separately on national missions planned under the National Action Plan on climate change.

Studying various aspects under the national mission, the groups are working on seven national missions including solar, enhanced energy efficiency, sustainable habitat, water mission, Green India, sustainable agriculture and a strategic knowledge for climate change.

The seven working groups (multiple committees) were constituted to explore options on how to deal with climate change consequences on various areas. In all the working groups, three or more state government departments are working conjointly to prepare an action-plan to curtail the effects of climate change.

Each working group has appointed a nodal officer and each group would prepare an action-plan report which would cover a range of measures to deal with the climate change.

The Government has directed all the working groups to submit the action-plan report within two months.

“The senior officials from MoEF would visit Chandigarh on Thursday to review the work initiated by Haryana Government regarding the preparation of SAPCC,” said a senior official of the Haryana Government while talking to The Pioneer.

The official said: “An inception workshop on climate change has been organized on Thursday where all the experts would deliberate upon several issues concerning the SAPCC preparation.”
