Three get for cheetal poaching

Three persons, including a former Additional Regional Manager (ARM) of UP Roadways were convicted for wildlife crime by the Haridwar civil judge.

According to information provided by local sources, the three had been sentenced to two-year rigorous imprisonment with Rs 1,000 fine.

The trio was found guilty of involvement in poaching of a Cheetal (spotted deer) which took place on June 16, 1995.

Former ARM of UP Roadways Abhinav Srivastav, resident of Manglaur village in Haridwar and Chamoli resident Panna Lal were found guilty of poaching Cheetal in 1995.

The sentence based on the fact that officials of the Haridwar division of the Forest Department had found the skin and meat of a Cheetal from the home of Srivastavs.
