Rosaiah inaugurates conference

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister K. Rosaiah has stated that efficient solid waste management has a vital role in the co-existence of human civilisation with the nature.

Speaking after inaugurating a two-day conference and exhibition on solid waste management, “Clean India 2010 and Climate Change and its Impact on India” here on Friday, the Chief Minister suggested sending recyclable waste directly to recycling plants by segregating it at source that is at home, school, office or hospital, instead of taking it to the dumping yard.

Private sector, non-governmental organisations and rag-pickers could play a significant role in solid waste management as civic bodies had financial constraints and other institutional problems like staff shortage, he noted.

Minister for Health Danam Nagender launched Rapid Action in Hyderabad Urban Limits, Services Effectiveness in Wards (RAHUL SEWA), a citizen centric initiative with public-NGO-student partnership, for helping people in waste management.

Founder of Blue Cross Amala Akkineni said garbage lifting and scavenging was a matter of human dignity and sought to know “why somebody else should put hands into filth generated by others.” Director of Ramky Enviro Engineers B. Padmaja stressed the need for adopting new technologies in waste management. Founder of Exnora International M.B. Nirmal, president of Sukuki Exnora Major Shiva Kiran also spoke.
