Buffalo Zoo Supporting World Wildlife Fund (WWF)'s 2010 Earth Hour Project

Buffalo, NY - The Buffalo Zoo is encouraging its staff, as well as the Western New York Community, to join a global effort in support of encouraging world leaders to take action on climate change.Initiated by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the 2010 Earth Hour project will take place on Saturday, March 27. Everyone is encouraged to turn off their lights from 8:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. local time.Earth Hour began in Sydney, Australia in 2007. Approximately 2.2 million people joined in the effort the first year.Last year, nearly one billion people in 4,100 cities in 87 countries switched off their lights. Iconic landmarks across the world even went dark during Earth Hour, including the Empire State Building, the Las Vegas strip, Golden Gate Bridge, the Great Pyramids of Giza, St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament in London and Sydney’s Opera House.Earth Hour 2009 was the largest climate event in history.
