KOCHI: Kochi will join hands with the WWF for Nature under the aegis of the JCI Cochin (Junior Chamber International) to observe Earth Hour on Saturday. With the perils of global warming signalling their presence everywhere, the organisers have requested citizens to support the event by switching off lights on March 27 from 8.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m.

Earth Hour assumes greater importance as no substantial decision has been taken at the U.N. Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen in December 2009, says a communication from the JCI Cochin.

The Earth Hour 2010 movement is expected to bring to the forefront the voice of more than a billion people before the world leaders.

Earth Hour presents an opportunity for every person in the world to have a say in that agreement's outcome and ensure it is not merely an insubstantial token effort by our world's leaders, the communication said.

On Saturday, there will be a public function at Durbar Hall Ground at 7.30 p.m. where eminent speakers from different walks of life, thinkers, celebrities and others will join the campaign.
