16 dead migratory birds seized, one arrested

Even though number of measures has been taken to curb the poaching of migratory birds in Chilika, the poaching continues unabated. The wildlife officials on Saturday seized 16 dead birds from Soran village and arrested a person.

Sources the officials of Tangi Wildlife division led by ranger Braja Kishor Sahu swooped down on the village on a tip-off, seized the dead birds and arrested a resident Anwar Khan. He had killed the birds to sell their meat.

The officials said 16 squads have been formed and they are trying their level best to curb poaching. But despite these isolated incidents are taking place in local areas.
