GUNTUR: The People’s Watch Forum in Guntur has appealed to citizens and voluntary organisations to observe Global Climate Week from September 19 to 25 to save the earth and themselves from the adverse impact of climatic changes.

Global Climate Week coincides with the United Nations Secretary-General’s High Level Summit on Climate Change on September 22.

The important week and the lead-up weekend would be marked by synchronised activities in more than 100 cities to urge world leaders to seal a fair and effective climate agreement at the UN Conference on Climate Change in Copenhagen in December.

Forum convener P.C. Sai Babu said that Global Climate Week would unite efforts, whether individual or collective, calling for urgent action to combat climate change – the greatest challenge of the present day. Mass tree planting activities help save the planet. , and beginning September 19 each tree pledged or planted during Global Climate Week would carry the Seal the Deal message – a direct call for political action on climate change. Those interested could let the coordinating agencies know how many trees they had pledged to plant and where. The planting could be part of ‘Clean up the world activity’.

The latest science shows our climate is changing more rapidly than expected. But it is not too late to change our habits and implement solutions so that humans stop harming the climate. From low-energy bulbs to fuel-cell cars, solutions for a low-carbon future are evolving every day, he added.
