NEW DELHI: To highlight the growing importance on climate change, Delhi-based Mahatma Gandhi Insitute of Combating Climate (MGICCC) Change is organising a conference on Climate Change & Relevance of New & Renewable Energy Systems.

According to a release by MGICC, the one-day conference is expected to be inaugurated by chief minister Sheila Dikshit. The conference will be attended by eminent scientists and intellectuals who will deliberate upon the critical issues and give their recommendations & time-bound action plan for Delhi.

Over the years, Delhi climate has changed a lot. Delhiites have witnessed a paradigm shift in government policies. Revolutionary policy changes like introduction of Delhi Metro Rail, CNG buses, afforestation & increase in forest cover, banning of use of plastic bags, subsidy on the electric car (REVA) and solar water heating systems, have brought significant changes to Delhi's environment.

MGICCC has started functioning since January 31, 2009. It has also taken up the task of capacity building by awareness campaigns, trainings, and workshops etc. This conference is also one such initiative. Due to MGICC initiatives only, majority of offices Delhi govt have now installed CFL Lamps in place of bulbs and tubelights.
