July 20: US secretary of state Hillary Clinton on Monday urged India to work on the reduction of carbon emissions ahead of the UN climate treaty in Copenhagen in December, to which India will also be a signatory. She also sought India's cooperation for tackling poverty, terrorism and proliferation of weapons.

"We want more partners. We want more allies. We want people taking responsibility and sharing the burden, whether it is for eradicating poverty, climate change, terrorism and weapons of mass destruction (WMD)," she said, while addressing the Delhi University students here.

The US secretary of state said WMD, climate change, hunger, poverty were global challenges without any borders. Acknowledging the efforts of the Indian government to provide opportunity for women, she said, ``India is right in giving due importance to healthcare and maternal care". Observing that India was emerging as a global leader in the 21st Century, Ms Clinton said the dynamism was palpable across the entire globe, right from the hi-tech industry in Hyderabad and Bengaluru to the financial hub of Mumbai.
