Students urged to preserve the greens

DUNI, June 13 – Under the collaboration of Gondhmow Tourism Development Society (GTDS), the Centre for Environment Education (CEE) North East and RCE of Guwahati observed World Environment Day with various activities involving students of Gondhmow Bangshar LP, Gondhmow ME Madrassa and Gondmow Anchalik High School on June 5, informed Md Inamul Haque Ahmed, secretary of GTDS. The programme started with a procession flagged off by Md Arzed Ali, assistant teacher of Gondhmow ME Madrassa. More than 200 students with placards participated in the procession. Besides other participatory activities, a mass signature collection drive and drawing activities were also organised among the students of the aforesaid three schools. Besides students, more than 50 citizens participated and promised to extend their day to day services in order to combat global climate change.

Rameswar Malakar, headmaster of Gondhmow Bangshar LP School presided over the meeting held on the occasion. Md Inamul Haque Ahmed, secretary of GTDS explained the main purpose of the meeting where Manoranjan Sarma, project associate of CEE, NE spoke in detail on importance of World Environment Day. In his presidential address, Malakar appealed the guardians and students to plant at least one sapling regularly for future greener and cooler earth.
